Adult Evaluations

Comprehensive psychological testing for adults

Many adults arrive at midlife carrying questions they were never given answers to. Whether it is ADHD, a learning disorder, anxiety, or a high IQ that was never formally measured, a thorough evaluation provides the clarity that changes everything.

What Adults Seek Testing For

Answers that were never offered when you were younger

Psychological evaluation is not just for children. A significant number of adults walk into Rebecca's office having spent years, sometimes decades, managing something that was never named. A formal evaluation as an adult can provide a diagnosis, open access to accommodations, or simply give you a clearer picture of how your mind works.

Adult ADHD evaluation

ADHD in adults often looks nothing like what teachers described in the classroom thirty years ago. Inattention, disorganization, difficulty sustaining focus on low-interest tasks, and a persistent sense of underperformance are common presentations. Many adults were bright enough to compensate in school, only to find the demands of career, finances, or relationships eventually outpace their ability to manage without support.

  • Attention and executive function assessment
  • Detailed developmental history
  • Validated rating scales and self-report measures
  • Diagnosis and treatment recommendations

Learning disorders in adulthood

Dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia do not disappear after high school. Adults who struggled in school, were told they were not trying hard enough, or simply learned to work around their difficulties often come to Rebecca wanting an answer they never received as a child. Identifying a learning disorder as an adult is a legitimate and clinically meaningful step at any age.

  • Reading fluency and decoding testing
  • Written expression and math achievement
  • Cognitive processing and working memory
  • Documentation for higher education accommodations

Anxiety and psychological evaluation

Anxiety that interferes with work, relationships, or daily functioning is worth understanding thoroughly, not just managing. A psychological evaluation helps clarify what is driving the difficulty, whether that is anxiety alone, an underlying attention or learning issue that creates chronic stress, or something else entirely. The result is a clearer picture that leads to better, more targeted care.

  • Emotional and psychological functioning assessment
  • Differentiation from ADHD and learning disorders
  • Validated symptom and personality measures
  • Guidance for your treatment team

High-IQ and Mensa cognitive testing

Mensa requires documentation showing IQ at or above the 98th percentile. Many adults with exceptional cognitive ability have simply never had formal testing, or their previous scores are too old to be accepted. Rebecca conducts comprehensive adult cognitive evaluations and provides the documentation needed to apply for Mensa membership or to satisfy other purposes requiring formal IQ documentation.

  • Standardized adult IQ battery
  • Percentile scores and composite indexes
  • Written report suitable for Mensa submission

How It Works

A straightforward process built around you

Adult evaluations are structured the same way as any evaluation Rebecca conducts: a real conversation first, thorough testing second, and a results session where you understand every finding.

1

Initial consultation

You and Rebecca talk about what you are experiencing, what you are hoping to understand, and what you need the evaluation to accomplish. This conversation determines which assessments are the right fit. There is no standard package, because no two adults come in with the same question.

2

Evaluation sessions

Testing is conducted one-on-one with Rebecca. Depending on the scope of the evaluation, this typically requires one or two sessions. You will complete standardized measures relevant to your referral question: cognitive, academic, attentional, emotional, or a combination. Nothing is rushed.

3

Results review

Rebecca walks you through the complete report, explaining what each finding means in plain language. You leave with a copy of the written report and a clear understanding of the results. The report is yours to use however it serves you, whether that is sharing it with a physician, submitting it to a university, or keeping it for your own knowledge.

Assessment tools used in adult evaluations

Rebecca selects instruments based on your specific referral question. Common measures include:

WAIS-IV (Adult IQ) WIAT-III (Academic Achievement) Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales Brown Executive Function Scales MMPI-3 (Psychological Functioning) GORT-5 (Reading Fluency) BASC-3 Self-Report Symptom validity testing
Who Seeks Adult Testing

You are not the only adult asking these questions

Adults come to Rebecca for evaluation at every stage of life. Here are three of the most common situations she sees.

The adult who was never diagnosed as a child

You made it through school, maybe even did well in some areas, but something has always felt harder than it should be. Reading, focusing, staying organized, managing numbers. No one ever said anything clinical, but you have always wondered. A formal evaluation as an adult can finally put a name to what you have been managing, and point you toward support that actually matches what you need.

The adult needing documentation for accommodations

You are returning to college, entering a graduate program, pursuing a professional certification, or navigating a workplace that requires documentation before accommodations can be granted. Your old testing is expired, or you never had any. Rebecca's evaluation reports are written to meet the documentation standards required by higher education institutions and, in many cases, professional licensing bodies.

The adult curious about a high IQ

You have suspected for a long time that you think differently from most people. You process information quickly, make connections others miss, and find many tasks unstimulating. You may be interested in Mensa membership, or you may simply want to know where you actually stand. A formal cognitive evaluation provides an objective, documented answer and a complete profile of your cognitive strengths.

Common Questions

Adult psychological testing FAQ

Is it too late to be evaluated for ADHD or a learning disorder as an adult?

Absolutely not. Adults are evaluated for ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other learning disorders every day, many of them for the very first time. A late diagnosis does not make the finding less real or less useful. In fact, adults often report that a formal evaluation finally explains decades of difficulty and opens doors to support they never knew was available.

Can I use evaluation results for college or workplace accommodations?

Yes. Colleges, universities, and graduate programs require current documentation of a diagnosed condition to provide accommodations such as extended time, a separate testing room, or note-taking support. Some employers and professional licensing boards accept similar documentation. Rebecca's written reports are designed to meet these standards and include the specific diagnostic language required by most institutions.

What is Mensa, and can Rebecca's evaluation qualify me for membership?

Mensa is a society open to individuals who score at or above the 98th percentile on a standardized IQ test. If you have never had formal cognitive testing or your prior testing is outdated, Rebecca can conduct an adult cognitive evaluation. If your results meet the Mensa threshold, the documentation from your evaluation can be submitted directly to support your application.

How current does adult testing need to be?

Requirements vary by purpose. Most colleges and universities require testing completed within three to five years. Some professional licensing boards set their own timelines. For personal insight or a Mensa application, there is no expiration. If you are unsure whether your existing documentation will be accepted, Rebecca can review it with you during a consultation and advise whether a new evaluation is necessary.

How is adult ADHD evaluation different from a child's evaluation?

The underlying assessment tools and diagnostic criteria share the same foundation, but adult evaluations account for how ADHD presents differently across the lifespan. Adults have typically developed compensating strategies that can mask symptoms in structured testing. Rebecca also collects detailed history going back to childhood, because ADHD is a developmental condition and the history matters even when symptoms were never formally identified earlier.

What types of tests are used in an adult psychological evaluation?

This depends on what you are seeking. Cognitive evaluations typically include a standardized IQ battery. Academic evaluations add reading, writing, and math achievement measures. ADHD evaluations include attention and executive function rating scales along with collateral history. Psychological evaluations may include personality and emotional functioning measures. Rebecca discusses the right battery with every adult before testing begins so there are no surprises.
