Psychological evaluations for private school students

Private schools rarely have a psychologist on campus. When a student is struggling or a concern surfaces in the classroom, families have no built-in path to answers. Rebecca fills that gap.

Who This Is For

When a private school can't provide the answers your family needs

Public school students have access to a school psychologist as part of the system. Private school students typically do not. When concerns about learning, attention, or behavior arise, it falls to the family to find independent support. Rebecca has built referral relationships with independent schools, Montessori schools, and faith-based schools across multiple counties because those schools recognize what she offers: a qualified evaluator who understands both the clinical picture and the school setting.

Initial evaluations

For students who have never been evaluated, Rebecca conducts a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment when learning or attention concerns are first identified. Parents and teachers see something; Rebecca helps determine what is actually happening and why.

  • Cognitive and academic achievement testing
  • Behavioral and attention assessment
  • Diagnosis when supported by data
  • School-ready written report

Reevaluations for transferring students

When a student moves from a public school where they had an IEP to a private school, the private school typically wants current evaluation data. Rebecca conducts updated assessments that give the new school a clear picture of the student's needs today, not two or three years ago.

  • Updated cognitive and achievement measures
  • Review of prior IEP history
  • Current accommodation recommendations
  • Private-school-specific guidance

Accommodation recommendations

Every evaluation includes clear, specific recommendations for the student's current school setting. Rebecca understands what is realistic and appropriate in a private school environment, having worked directly with independent, Montessori, and faith-based schools across North Carolina.

  • Classroom accommodation list
  • Instructional strategy guidance
  • Practical, school-ready language
  • Guidance for school staff unfamiliar with the diagnosis
School Types Served

Experience across every type of private school

Rebecca has worked with families from a range of private school environments, and she tailors her recommendations to what each school can realistically offer.

Independent private schools

Non-sectarian college-preparatory and classical schools. Rebecca understands the academic rigor these schools expect and frames recommendations to fit that culture.

Montessori schools

Mixed-age classrooms and self-directed learning create a unique context for evaluation findings. Rebecca considers Montessori's philosophy in her recommendations.

Faith-based schools

Christian schools, Catholic schools, and other faith-based environments. Rebecca is familiar with these communities and communicates in a way that resonates with families and staff.

How It Works

A clear, parent-centered process

From the first phone call to the moment you hand the report to your school, here is exactly what to expect.

1

You call or email

Tell Rebecca what you are seeing at home and what concerns the school has raised in the classroom. Together, you will discuss what types of testing would be most appropriate for your child.

2

One-on-one evaluation

Rebecca works with your child individually using proven cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional assessment tools. For most evaluations, this takes one or two sessions.

3

Report review with you

Rebecca reviews the complete report with you, explaining every finding in plain language. You receive the report and can share it with the school, the child's pediatrician, or any other providers you choose.

Common Questions

Private school evaluation FAQ

Does the private school receive the evaluation report directly?

No. You receive the full report and share it with your school at your discretion. The evaluation belongs to the family. Most private schools are eager to receive this kind of documentation because it helps them serve the student better.

Are private schools required to follow the evaluation recommendations?

Private schools are not bound by IDEA (the federal law that governs public school special education), so they are not legally required to implement an IEP. However, most independent, Montessori, and faith-based schools work cooperatively with families who provide independent evaluation documentation, and many will put accommodations in place based on the report.

My child transferred from public school with an IEP. Can you help?

Yes. This is one of the most common situations we see. Private schools typically want updated evaluation data to understand a transferring student's current needs. A reevaluation gives the school current information and specific accommodation recommendations for their setting, even if they do not implement a formal IEP.

Can Rebecca help a school that has never worked with a psychologist before?

Absolutely. Part of what Rebecca provides is guidance, not just a report. She can help a school understand what the evaluation found, what kinds of support are appropriate, and how to begin serving a student who is showing difficulty. Many of her referral schools rely on her for exactly this.

Which counties and school types has Rebecca worked with?

Rebecca has active referral relationships with independent private schools, Montessori schools, and faith-based schools across North Carolina, including Wake, Johnston, Alamance, and Wilson Counties. Rebecca serves families from across the state, so if your school is in another county, please contact us.

What is the difference between an initial evaluation and a reevaluation?

An initial evaluation is for a student who has never had a formal psychological assessment. A reevaluation updates prior testing, typically needed when a student has moved from a public school (where they had an IEP) to a private school, or when an existing evaluation is too old to be clinically useful.
